day 1 week 1

#1

I believe that pure water is more important than clear water. Even though some water is clear it could still be contaminated with bacteria and other viruses which make it unsuitable for certain usage.

#2 ISAS

1. If Jimmy Hendricks drank just packaged fruit juice, then he still would be using water because water is still used in the process of making the container and juice itself.

2. Three indirect uses of water associated with producing a loaf of bread are: water used in the packaging to encase the bread, water used to provide moisture for the dough, and water used to bind the ingredients together in the production of the bread itself.

8. The world's total amount of water has changed over the course of hundreds of years, due to glaciers and ice caps melting as a result of climate change.

9. Oceans, glaciers, water vapor, rivers.

10. A situation in which this statement would be true is in the states where heavy rainfall and snow occur.

11. 77% of water is used in irrigation and agriculture in the Western region.

12. The percentage of fresh water found in glaciers and ice caps 0.75% and the percentage of fresh water found in lakes is 0.003%.

13. It is possible that a molecule of water that you drank today was once swallowed by a dinosaur because water can be reused over the course of many years.

17. If each person in the U.S. uses an average of 370 L of water a day, and the U.S. per capita water  use is 4960 L, it means that each person uses 370 L of water a day on average, but on a larger scale, not necessarily daily, the total water use per person is 4960 L.

#3 A.5

1. East - steam/electric.
South - steam/electric.
Midwest - steam/electric.
West - irrigation/agricultural.
Alaska - mining.
Hawaii - irrigation/agricultural.

2. Water in the East is used mainly for steam and electric purposes, where as water in the West is distributed mainly for irrigational and agricultural uses. Most agriculture is grown in the West because of the fertile soil, therefore the water usage is at a higher percentage. In the East, steam and electrical usage is most prominent.

3. In Hawaii, the main use of water derives from irrigation and agriculture because of the fertile soil and tropical climate. In Alaska, the main use of water derives from mining, because mining is one of the main economic industries in the state. In the West, the main use of water derives from irrigation and agriculture because of the various climate regions and widespread industry of farming. In the Midwest, the main use of water derives from steam and electric purposes because of the industrialization of the region. In the South, the main use of water derives from steam and electric purposes because of the renowned high technology industries and manufacturing bases.
