Filtrate- the liquid collected after it has been filtered
Percent recovery- the percent of your original foul water
sample that is recovered as purified water
Histogram- a diagram consisting of rectangles whose area is
proportional to the frequency of a variable and whose width is proportional to the
class interval
Range- the difference between the largest and smallest
values in a data set
Average- adding all the values together and dividing the sum
by the total bumber of values
Mean- same thing as an average
Median- the middle value found by listing all the values in
ascending/descending order then finding the value in the middle of the list
Electrical conductivity- this test focuses on the presence
of dissolved, electrically charged particles in the water
Direct water use- water that can be directly measured
Indirect water use- hidden uses of water like the water that
is needed to grow and process various components of that material
Gaseous state- ex: water vapor
Liquid state- water in lakes, rivers, oceans, clouds, and
rain
Solid state- water in ice
Surface water- water supply that originates in a river or
other body of water
Ground water- water that must be pumped to the surface, ex:
well
Aquifer- water bearing layer of rock, sand or gravel
